Development rowing course

Continue to grow your rowing skills with our Development course
Carry on rowing!

The development rowing programme is designed for individuals who have already completed TopRow’s Learn to row/ Beginner course or have some prior rowing experience.

The Development course focuses on improving technique and building endurance, with the aim of allowing rowers to continue to progress and improve their skills. This course places higher emphasis on refining rowing skills, improving performance on the water and developing a better understanding of the sport. The aim is to help rowers achieve greater proficiency, whether they are looking to train at a higher level or simply want to continue to improve their skills and enjoy the benefits of rowing.

Trying rowing has never been so easy – try Development rowing with TopRow

TopRow is London’s first and only dedicated school for Development rowing. We have taught tens of thousands of people across the world how to row – and we want to teach you, too!

Experience London in a new way

We guarantee you’ve never seen London quite like this. Take a trip past Fulham football stadium, Harrods furniture depository, under Hammersmith bridge, and enjoy the views – from the water!

Teaching from high-level athletes

Our friendly TopRow coaches are experienced rowers, from nearby universities and clubs, who have competed to a high level. They’ve got mountains of experience to share with you.

Get fit(ter) and stay fit(ter)

Rowing is one of the best ways to build up physical strength and fitness. Continue to build on the strength and fitness gains you made in the beginner course, and start to see the body of a rower!

What you'll learn:

  • Stroke improvement: Refining the rowing stroke, focusing on more detailed technique (such as feathering and squaring).
  • Fitness and conditioning: Starting a basic fitness and conditioning program tailored to rowing.
  • Team coordination: Working on timing and synchronisation with other rowers in the boat.
  • Go further: Start journeying further in your sessions, all the way up to Craven Cottage and beyond!
When can I row?

TopRow courses run for set periods, so we have a set date every 8 weeks when all the lessons kick off. You row every week within those 8 weeks on the same time and day.

See this year’s courses here

Who will I row with?

You will row in a group of 4 (our boats accommodate 4 people) If you’re attending with a friend, let us know in advance and we can make sure you row together. If you’re attending alone, no worries! Most of our newbie rowers come by themselves – when you’re placed in your group, you’ll be rowing with them every week and are sure to make great friends.

If your group from a previous course would like to continue in the same crew, please let us know when you register!

What if I can't make a session?

Don’t worry if you can’t make a session or two! Try to let us know with as much notice as possible, and we will do our best to find a replacement session for you. PLEASE NOTE we cannot guarantee make-up sessions, they are subject to availability, and we require at least 48hrs notice to be able to look for one for you.
